We Could Be - The Hunna

Hello and welcome back to songs you might have heard! This week the festival in question is Reading and Leeds, and the song is We Could Be by The Hunna!

Here’s what I thought…

THE SONG:

We Could Be is the second track from their debut album 100, and retains the scintillating energy and power of it’s predecessor, Bonfire.

This is a song that won’t sit down, full of huge choruses and energetic guitars, this is the sort of song you want to be in a crowd for. I just feel like I should be bouncing whenever I listen to it.

We Could Be comes across as a direct diss to an unnamed individual who seems to have ditched the band at some point – ex-band member? A manager? Who knows – and the lyrics send the message that this individual had held the band back, and will be very sorry when this band “blows up like a bonfire”.

The animosity they feel is clearly a driving force for the song, with every note played or sung laced with spite, and this adds to the immense energy that this song contains.

It’s a banger.

THE ARTIST:

The Hunna, in a jolly mood

The Hunna – apparently slang for “giving 100 percent in our music and everyday lives” – were formed in Hertfordshire in 2015, with their first single Bonfire coming out in October of that year.

And I’ll tell you what, it’s a strong debut.

Energetic, , and with a giant chorus, it set the scene for what we have come to expect from the band.

Purveyor of some of the best singalong choruses to come out of indie rock in the last few years, The Hunna put on a great live show.

When I saw them at Reading 2016, I would argue that they were one of the best things I saw, and with an impressively large crowd for a band that had formed a year ago, which they controlled it effortlessly, and boy, the atmosphere in that gig was electric.

I would highly recommend going and seeing these lads, because above all else, they’re just good fun.

Other songs to check out: She’s Casual, Bonfire, Dare.

RATING:

7.5/10

We Could Be is good fun, got a classic The Hunna massive chorus, and basically ticks all the boxes for a good festival song and dance. Go see them.
